At Home DIY Creative Ideas That Are On The Next Level!

Most times, people want to make home improvements, but it can get pretty expensive to pay someone else to do them. So, in today’s video, we are going through some DIY creative ideas that you can pull off to take your home design to the next level.

Without further ado, let us get creative.

Before we start dishing out all the creative ideas we have prepared for this video, we need first to lay down some ground rules. First off, some of the procedures in this video will require you to make use of some serious tools.

So, if you do not have any experience with any of the power tools that could threaten your safety, be sure to have someone else do it - or at least supervise.

Secondly, if you live in a rented apartment, then be sure to take permission from the owners of the apartment before making any permanent changes to the place.

Now that we have settled all that let us get to it.

Faux Marble Tabletop

Getting a premium look on your furniture does not have to cost an arm and a leg. You can, as they say, “fake it until you make it.”

Everybody loves how marble looks on furniture, but not everybody can afford it. You’ll be looking to spend between 500 to 3000 dollars if you are going for the real stuff. This DIY option costs less but also looks and feels as close as you can get to the original marble.

Depending on what you have access to, the first thing you need is some white paint. Now, still depending on how wide you are willing to stretch your budget, you can make use of fancy paint like glazes, or just stick to the more affordable paint plus primer option.

Paint the whole tabletop white, making sure to apply at least three coats so it’s bright and shiny. Once you’re done painting, apply a faux marble furniture wrapper that you can get for cheap on Amazon, link in the description.

To ensure the wrapper fits nicely around the edges, using a hairdryer to partially melt the paper on the edges to remove all air bubbles so it’s easier to straighten out. And ta-da! Your furniture is now marble.

Depending on the size of the table, all of it should cost you well under 150 bucks.

Removing Your Popcorn Ceiling

Here is a subtle change to your room that can take it one step closer to that premium look. Popcorn ceilings are not the most pleasing sights to behold, plus they can quickly become quarters for dust and dirt.

The good thing is that you can easily remove the popcorn ceiling. All you need is a wet/dry vacuum cleaner and a drywall knife - both of which you probably have sitting around somewhere.

As a side note, do confirm that the ceiling does not contain lead and asbestos before you start this project - especially if the house was built before 1979.

This is not the most complex DIY trick in the world, but it will definitely give your room the “next level” feel you are looking for at little or no cost at all.

Customized Closet Doors

You can turn a small room into a luxurious room just by customizing the closet doors with mirrors. This modification will seamlessly switch your plain old closet door to a premium door that can now serve as a mirror to check yourself while testing out clothes.

All you need to do here is to purchase some framed floor-length mirrors and paint the frames to match the color of the closet door.

You can then use the construction adhesive to attach the mirrors to the closet door. If the apartment is rented and you cannot make any permanent changes, then you can use picture-hanging strips instead.

With how easy this was to accomplish, you can as well make some slight customizations to the mirror, such as trim pieces and stickers for that extra premium vibe.

Everything in this project will cost less you less than 50 dollars to pull off - at least depending on the kind of materials you go for.

Sliding Barn Doors

Doors play a huge role in how premium your apartments look, and here is another DIY door trick that screams premium.

Somehow, sliding barn doors have become one of the most popularly used concepts in modern design. But it is understandable, considering that the idea combines both farmhouse and industrial elements to produce a premium result.

For this, you will need a door, some barn door hardware, a stud finder, a pencil, a center punch, hammer, drill and bits, an adjustable wrench, safety glasses, and a level.

You most likely already have most of the tools listed, but if you don’t, you can find all of these in your local hardware store at meager costs.

If you are not sure about the tools and materials that will be best for your project, make sure that you explain the specifics of the project to the storekeeper. This way, you can be sure that you are getting the right materials that are specific to the size and nature of your house.

Floating Window Box

Getting the premium look for your home does not stop at the interior; the exterior of your house is its first impression so getting it right is really important.

One great exterior attachment that really gives that next level feel is a floating window box. A window box can contain colorful floral combinations that will make your exterior pop at first sight.

This is a more complex project compared to the ones we have mentioned so far. But then, the next level looks you want would also require next-level work to be successful.

For this project, you should employ the assistance of a person with more experience, if you do not have any. You’ll be needing a lot of tools and materials, so make sure that you have proper guidance before you start.

Wooden Shelves

Aren’t you tired of always seeing the same old endless line of cabinetry that crowds your kitchen wall? One elegant way to get something new is to replace some of the cabinets with open wooden shelves.

The texture of wood always looks good in the kitchen, so this is clearly a good move in the direction of the premium look for your home.

There are several budget ways to get this project properly done. You can go for whatever fits your budget.

You can polish up old wood sitting in the garage or just get completely new materials for the project. It all depends on what you want.

Farmhouse Door Trims

Here is another subtle farmhouse adaptation into modern design concepts that adds a premium look to your doors.

Now, don’t be scared - this project is not as difficult as it might seem, and thankfully, it is also pretty cheap to get done. With just some basic understanding of carpentry, you should be able to get this project done.

All you need to do is remove the old trims and replace them with new ones from poplar boards. As always, feel free to ask your local hardware storekeeper for guidance on the materials to purchase.

Stencil Stair Risers

Staircases are another big part of the general outlook of your interior. It is possible that you have gotten bored of the stairs you met at the apartment, or you just need something new.

One way to give your staircase a lift is with stencils. You can stencil your stair risers and have them look like something right our of a classic vintage film.

The most undemanding way to get this done with minimal expenses is first to measure the risers and then find your preferred stencil design online. There are a lot of low-cost options available online, and they are not difficult to find.

If again, you are in a rented house, you can avoid applying the stencil directly by cutting plywood boards to the riser size and stenciling them instead. You can attach this to the stairs with a nail gun or removable picture hanging strips.

This method will also help you avoid bending for too long, trying to get the stencil on correctly.

Paneled Not Plain Doors

We are back again on doors, and it is because by just changing something as simple as a doorknob, your house can go from boring to premium.

But this DIY is not about changing doorknobs, it is about the pattern of the door.  One-dimensional plain doors can bring a very dull and lifeless feel to your home. Therefore, it would be a significant improvement to upgrade them to something with more depth.

You should try going for shaker-style doors that have plywood panels installed artistically. This is both simple and gorgeous to behold at the same time.

Most shaker-style furniture cost over 200 dollars, but this project can be completed on a 100 dollar budget with the right guidance.

Kitty Scratch Board

Kitties are always known to want to stick their cute little paws into virtually anything they can find. If you happen to have a kitty of your own, then both you and your pet will benefit from this project.

Apart from being an aesthetical and somewhat artistic addition to your wall, this project will also make sure that your couch and other furniture remain safe from your cat’s claws.

It is also a straightforward project to carry out that requires little or no experience with tools and carpentry. All you need is an old picture or art frame and a patterned doormat.

Once you can revamp the old frame by coating it with a fresh layer of paint and replace whatever was in the frame with the doormat, you have yourself an artistic scratchboard to keep your cat busy. It will also look so much like an art piece that you can comfortably hang it on any area of your wall.

Make sure that you hang this piece up with durable hardware so it can hold up well when your cat gets busy with it.

Bathtub Beadboard

While you update the doors, ceilings, and stairs of your home for a more premium look, you should also consider touching up your bathtub too.

You can give your bathtub a homely cottage makeover with some elegant beadboard trim. A standard tub should take a beadboard sheet of about four by eight inches.

The only primary tool you will need for this project is construction glue. The beadboard will not cost more than 20 dollars, and you probably already have a tube of glue at home.

This is a very simple project to complete, and it is also the most budget-friendly on the list so far.

The Dutch Door

Also known as the double-hung door or half door, the Dutch door is one door horizontally divided into half in such a way that the one half can be shut while the other is open.

This door style makes it easier to check on your kids and let light into the rooms without needing to leave the doors wide open.

The fun part of this project is that you can modify an existing door to get it done. You don’t have to buy a new door.

This is another DIY project that you might not be able to do yourself. There are some heavy-duty tools involved, but if you already have experience with them, then you will do just fine.
